The Heavenly Road

Father, I want to live with the consciousness of Christ being my Head, drawing the supply of all my needs from His exhaustless resources, and doing all for His glory. I want to hold fast to Christ Jesus, my Head and depend wholly upon Him. Yesterday’s help will not do for today.

Father, I want to continue to die to the flesh with all its passions and lusts and only live to the glory of Your Son. I do this not out of fear of punishment, but rather out of love for the One who gave Himself for me. It’s Your love that makes me really free to do right. Your love makes it easy to choose; love makes the face of duty beautiful. And love makes it sweet to keep up with You and love makes the service of goodness freedom. Love sees no faults; it endures long, sees no end.

Your word says, because, I have been raised with Christ, I should seek those things, which are above. Help me, Lord to cultivate heavenly ways, I do not want to be earth-bound in my outlook, but heavenly bound.  My feet may be upon the earth, but my head should be with the stars. I want to live like a citizen of heaven here on earth. Father, I want to be identified with Christ in His resurrection; to be disconnected from man’s world, man’s religion, and man’s wisdom. I want to be put in touch with Your world and with all that is there. I consider myself as dead to this world but alive with the process of becoming increasingly conformed to the life of my Lord Jesus.  I want my life to be hidden with Christ in You. I want His destiny to be my destiny. “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. (Col. 3:4)

Father, I reckon myself dead to sin by putting to death my members which are on earth, my standing is in Christ Jesus; my state is what I am in myself. My standing is the free gift of You through faith in Your Son. My state represents my response to Your grace.

You freely give to all that believe on the Lord Jesus a position of favor in Your sight. Father, I want to continue to grow more and more like my Lord Jesus Christ. I am not satisfied with my present attainment; I want to press on to the goal of increasing conformity to my Savior. I want Christ as my example and for Him to rule over my life. Father, when I stand at the Judgment Seat of Christ, I want to be judged not by how much better my life was than others, but rather how my life measured up to the life of the Lord Jesus Himself. I want my character to reflect holiness, love, humility, meekness, kindness and forgiveness. Give me a renewed mind and heart, O God.

Father, Your word says, forgiveness should be exercised toward others when they have offended. “Even as Christ forgave you, you also must do.”  You forgave me without a cause, so should I. You forgave freely, so should I.  I pray you give me the strength to follow my blessed Savior in this wonderful attitude.

Your word says, put on love as the outer garment, or the belt, which binds all other virtues together in order to make up perfection. It will hold together in symmetry all parts of my Christian character. Father, I pray that my actions should not be self-seeking, but be born out of wholehearted affection because Your love is the bond of perfection.

Father, help me to live compatibly with my fellow believers and to be an example in all I do and say. I pray that I will not shirk my responsibilities in my church, nor give them up when I am annoyed or provoked. Give me a thankful spirit, for Your word states that a cheerful, thankful attitude of mind is beneficial for the body, and that worry, depression, and a complaining spirit is harmful to my health.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col. 3:16)  May You dwell in me richly. I want my heart and mind to be so saturated in Your holy word that I seek to walk in obedience to it, to have Your word to be at home in my heart. Help me Lord to share my knowledge of Scripture with others and to seek help by practical Godly counsel.

Your word says, that being filled with Your Word is both requisites for living a joyful, useful, fruitful life. You said we are not filled with the Spirit unless we yield up our innermost being to the control of the Holy Spirit. O Father, I yield to Your Word and to Your Holy Spirit. Father, it is my aim to be well pleasing to You, to keep my eyes focused on the right goals. I want to be approved by You so I will discipline my body and bring it into subjection to Your will. I recognize Your claim of ownership over me, as my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I know I have the responsibility to keep my spirit in agreement with Your Spirit. And, when I do, You gradually lift me to the level of where You live. A level of perfect submission to Your will, where I pay no attention to anything else.  Father, have Your way with me, so people will begin to see You working in my life more and more. “…perfecting holiness in fear of God.” (2Corinthians. 7:1)

Father, Your Word says, living a life of faith means never knowing where you are being led. But it does mean loving and knowing the One who is leading. Faith is rooted in the knowledge of You, and one of the traps I fall into is the belief that if I have faith, You will surly lead me to success in this world. It is literally a life of faith, not understanding and reason, a life of knowing You. Faith is the attainment of character. Faith is not a life of one glorious mountaintop experience after another, but is a life-in and day-out consistency; a life walking without fainting. Father, I want the faith that has been tried and proved and has withstood the test, built on You. Faith in You assures me there is always hope and reminds me that You answer my prayers. “Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)

Sheltered in Your tender care, I am living in faith, not in fear. You give me peace of mind wherever I may go and whatever I do, I am in the shelter of Your love. Hallelujah! I give You praise and glory. Your presence is a blessed assurance when I face all circumstances with faith, with my shoulder back and my head held high for I am one with You, My Father. “You will have confidence, because there is hope; you will be protected and take your rest in safety.” Job 11:18
